Chennai: Southern Railway has announced a revision of the menu and tariff for a-la-carte catering items served at static catering units across the Southern Railway network. The revised rates take effect from September 11, 2026 and include 5% GST.
The revised notification covers 38 Pan-India a-la-carte items, 22 regional cuisine items and eight additional a-la-carte items, providing passengers with a broad selection of breakfast, snacks, meals, beverages and traditional regional delicacies.
Under the revised tariff, several popular items have seen moderate price increase of at least Rs.5/-. Prices for items such as Medhu Vada, Masala Vada, Rava Upma, Masala Dosa, Idly, Rava Idly and Pongal have been revised. Traditional rice preparations, including Tamarind Rice, Lemon Rice, Curd Rice and Coconut Rice, are also available at revised rates.
The regional cuisine menu continues to offer popular South Indian specialities such as Rice Puttu, Idiyappam, Appam, Kadlai Curry, Sukhiyaan, Neyyappam, Unniyappam and Tapioca Chilly with Papad. The notification also introduces additional Pan-India choices, including Stuffed Paratha, Chicken Curry, Vegetable Fried Rice, Egg Fried Rice, Chicken Fried Rice, Chilli Chicken and Vegetable Noodles.
Southern Railway has directed all concerned officials and licensees of static catering units to implement the revised menu and tariff. Inspection officials have also been instructed to monitor compliance and report any violations for appropriate action.
The revised tariff has been issued with the approval of the competent authority.
