Trivandrum: Rail Post Gati Shakti Express Service in collaboration with India Post will be introduced in Thiruvananthapuram Division Southern Railway, in order to provide end to end logistic service to parcel customers.
An initiative under the PM Gati Sakthi programme announced in the Union Budget 2022-2023, Rail Post Gati Shakti Express Service will be leveraging the strengths of the nationwide first mile and last mile connectivity advantage of the postal department with the economic and vast middle mile strength of Indian Railways. The scheme will be beneficial for MSMEs, Traders and farmers. Postal Department will pick up parcels from the customer’s premises as well as deliver the parcels to their destination with Railways providing Parcel Cargo Express Trains for the larger volumes of parcels or Parcel Vans attached to long distance Mail/Express trains, with cargo palletisation, after aggregation of less than Train Load Cargo through its transport network.
A marketing meet was organised on 28th November 2022 in the Office of the Area Manager/Ernakulam to introduce the service. Senior officers from the Railway Board, Southern Railway Zonal HQ, Divisional Railway authorities and India Post officials of Kerala Circle discussed in detail the implementation scheme, pattern of the service and other relevant aspects in the presence of representatives from Trade and Industry, like Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FICCI), Cochin Chambers of Commerce (CCC), leading logistic agencies and industrial customers.
