With reference to the report on very high parking charges at Railway stations, the railway would like to clarify that Parking tariffs were hiked along with other services as the service is covered under GST. Monthly parking fee at the regular parking area for two-wheelers was hiked to Rs 360/- from the earlier charge of Rs-300/-at Ernakulam and Aluva incorporating the GST element (18%) and rounding off.
At few stations revision of parking charges were not carried out earlier and now they have been brought to the rates at par with stations were revision was completed recently. For two-wheelers, which are common man’s vehicle, the tax liability is absorbed by Railways for the first slab without effecting any increase in tariff. Premium parking facility provided few stations is not intended for parking of the vehicle for a long duration. It is a facility aimed to give parking facility at close proximity to station and to ease out last minute rush.
