Ernakulam: The redeveloped Chalakudi and Angamali for Kaladi railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) will be dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi through VC on 17 July 2026.
The inauguration forms part of the nationwide dedication of 75 redeveloped Amrit Stations, taking forward the Government of India’s ambitious vision of creating world-class, passenger-centric railway stations that seamlessly blend modern infrastructure with local identity and regional aspirations. Under the ABSS, 35 railway stations in Kerala have been identified for comprehensive modernisation.
Located on the strategically important Shoranur–Cochin Harbour railway section under the Thiruvananthapuram Division of Southern Railway, Angamali for Kaladi Railway Station has evolved into a vital transport hub on the busy Kochi–Thrissur corridor. The station presently handles 191 train services every day and caters to an average daily footfall of over 4,100 passengers. Redeveloped at a cost of ₹9 crores, the station now presents a contemporary identity while retaining its regional significance. Passenger amenities have been significantly enhanced with the addition of a spacious executive waiting hall, general waiting halls, a modern booking office, a refurbished concourse, retiring rooms and dormitory facilities. Platform infrastructure has also been comprehensively upgraded with resurfaced high-level platforms and modern protective shelters to provide greater comfort in all weather conditions.
Chalakudi Railway Station is an important passenger and commercial hub serving central Kerala. The station handles 191 train services every day and caters to an average daily originating passenger footfall of 4,879, reflecting its growing importance in the region’s transport network. Redeveloped at a cost of ₹10 crores, the station has undergone a comprehensive transformation aimed at significantly enhancing passenger convenience, accessibility and operational efficiency.
Passenger amenities have received a major boost with the complete renovation of three waiting halls, a modernised booking office and upgraded toilet facilities. Platform infrastructure has also been substantially improved with resurfaced high-level platforms, enhancing passenger safety and comfort.
The redevelopment of these stations stands as a shining example of the ABSS vision of creating railway stations that are not merely transit points, but vibrant civic spaces that seamlessly integrate modern infrastructure, accessibility, sustainability and local cultural heritage.
