Changanasserry: Union Minister of State for Railways, Shri Rajen Gohain inaugurated the new Station building at Changanasseri Railway station in the presence of Union Minister of State for Tourism, Shri K J Alphons; Shri Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, Shri C F Thomas, MLA; Shri C P Anil Kumar, Chairman, Changanassery Municipality; P K Mishra, Additional General Manager, Southern Railway; Shirish Kumar Sinha, Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram; and other senior officials.
In his speech, the Minister said, “As far as Kerala is concerned, the Railway Budget allotment for 2018-19 is Rs. 923 crores, an increase of 148% when compared to the allocations of 2009-2014. Railways continuously strive to meet all the demands of its customers, in spite of the fact that we have limited resources. Indian Railways is looking forward to various types of partnerships with State Governments in all areas of passenger services. Indian Railways is the growth engine of the economy of our Nation and backbone of our Country’s infrastructure.”
Changanasseri Railway Station is a Non-Suburban Group 4 class (Old class B) station with an average passenger footfall of 4,524 passengers per day and average daily earnings of Rs 2.95 lakhs. Traffic wise – 28 express trains and 14 passenger trains are operated through Changanasserry station every day. As part of Chengannur – Chingavanam Doubling project, which is nearing completion, the station building at Changanasseri has been newly constructed at a cost of Rs.7.2 crore. The new station building is equipped with a host of facilities such as Current & Advance Booking Counters, Parcel Booking facility, I/II Class and Ladies Waiting halls, Differently-abled friendly Gents & Ladies toilets, ramps and a VIP Lounge.
