Ambalapuzha – Haripad double line section finally commissioned

Trivandrum: After years of waiting, the track doubling with the electrification of Ambalapuzha – Haripad Section (18.3 km), a Super Critical Project creating operational efficiency in the Ernakulam Jn. – Alappuzha – Kayamkulam Jn. route has been finally completed and commissioned.

There were Twenty manned Level Crossings (LCs) in the erstwhile single line section. During the planning of the project, it was decided to eliminate eleven manned LCs by constructing nine Limited Height Subways (LHS) and the remaining LC’s by connecting the access/road through the adjacent LCs.

The doubling work was carried out in two phases. In the first phase of the work, a newly electrified track (Downline, Ambalapuzha-Haripad) was laid and commissioned in March 2020. For the second phase works, traffic through the old single line section was suspended and the track re-graded with the extension of LHS, wherever manned LCs existed. The upgraded track (Upline, Haripad-Alappuzha) has been completed and commissioned today

Train No. 06316 Kochuveli – Mysuru Daily Special was the first passenger-carrying train to run on the newly commissioned track on March 24. Public residing in the vicinity of railway tracks between Ambalapuzha and Haripad are requested to avoid crossing/strolling on the railway track as trains will be operating (in maximum permissible speed) on both tracks from today.
