Trivandrum: R K Kulshrestha, General Manager, Southern Railway conducted the annual inspection of Thiruvananthapuram Division today and also reviewed the Division’s performance. Thiruvananthapuram Central, Kazhakuttam, Varkala Sivagiri, Kollam, Karunagapalli and Kottayam were the railway stations inspected.
At Thiruvananthapuram Central, the GM accompanied by Prakash Bhutani, Divisional Railway Manager of Thiruvananthapuram Division; Principal Head of Departments, other officers and staff, inspected various facilities viz., the running room, crew lobby, RRI cabin, C & W depot, etc. Later, the General Manager, along with the team of officers, inspected Kazhakuttam railway station and the Points & Crossings. At Kazhakuttam, TSS was also inspected. As the inspection progressed, he inspected a major bridge between Paravur – Mayyanad railway stations in Thiruvananthapuram – Kollam section.
Upon reaching Kollam, the GM inspected the railway station and also the staff colony, Health Unit, RRI cabin and the works pertaining to the provision of the second entry. He also interacted with the Track Machine Staff and received their feedback on field conditions.
Proceeding from Kollam, the General Manager inspected a major bridge between Perinad – Sasthankota railway stations in Kollam – Kayankulam section and interacted with the engineering department Ultrasonic Flaw Detection team. He also inspected a curve between Sasthankotta – Karunagapalli railway stations.
During the inspection at Karunagapalli railway station, the GM he interacted with the Over Head Equipment maintenance gang comprising of all women staff.
At Chengannur, he inspected the railway station and analysed the passenger amenities at the station. Proceeding further, he inspected the progress of doubling works between Changanassery – Chingavanam in Kayamkulam – Kottayam section.
Apart from inspecting various railway stations and associated facilities, staff colonies, railway hospitals, bridges, etc., the GM released a booklet on Track Maintenance brought out by the engineering department of Thiruvananthapuram Division.
During the course of the inspection, the General Manager declared cash awards to outstanding employees for taking utmost care to ensure safe operation of trains, for their contribution towards the upkeep of workplaces & railway stations and in appreciation of their efforts leading to the smooth functioning of railways. He also distributed merit certificates on the spot.
