Thiruvananthapuram Central station bags Environmental Management certification

Trivandrum: Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station of Southern Railway has been certified ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management System. ISO stands for ‘International Organisation for Standardisation’. Among the various types of certifications provided by the organization, ISO 14001:2015 accredits an organization which manages its environmental responsibilities in a systematic manner as per standard norms upgraded in 2015.

The services certified at the Station as per the policy and guidelines of Indian Railways are Provision of Train Operation, Signal and Telecommunication, Cleaning and Maintenance, Handling of Passengers, Provision of Passenger Amenities and Ticket Booking / Parcel Handling. The certification is valid till 08th April 2022 with annual surveillance audit in April 2020. A professional agency ‘LMS certifications’ is entrusted with the task of assessing the activities and streamlining procedures to improve the quality and environmental impact of activities at the station.

ISO 14001:2015 certified organizations contribute to the environmental pillar of sustainability. Thiruvananthapuram central station is the first railway station in the state of Kerala to be ISO 14001:2015 certified and enters the limited list of ISO certified railway stations in Indian Railways. Habibganj railway station in Madhya Pradesh was the first station to be ISO certified followed by Coimbatore Jn Railway station in Tamil Nadu. Ajay Kaushik, Station Director of Thiruvananthapuram central station has taken the initiative of ISO certification for the station under the guidance of Shirish Kumar Sinha, Divisional Railway Manager, Trivandrum Division.
