Trivandrum: ‘Operation Thirst’, a special drive to curb the sale of unauthorised Packaged Drinking Water (PDW) was conducted by Railway Protection Force, Thiruvananthapuram division, earlier this week. The sale of PDW without the approval of railways is illegal.
‘Railneer’ is manufactured by railways as per safety standards. As a part of the drive, special teams were created for a surprise inspection of station stalls and pantry cars of trains. The special team checked packaged drinking water sold by vendors and catering contractors.
As part of the programme on 08th and 09th July 2019, RPF, Thiruvananthapuram division conducted special drives in catering stalls, vegetarian and non-vegetarian stalls, food plazas and pantry cars of different trains.

While checking Train No.22643 Ernakulam – Patna express under the supervision of Assistant Security Commissioner, Ernakulam, four bottles of drinking water of other brand were found and seized for taking legal action. Similarly, ten bottles of drinking water of another brand were found kept in the pantry car of Train No.22639 Chennai Central – Alappuzha express. They were seized for further action and cases were registered against them under the relevant section of Railway Act.
