PM to inaugurate 103 upgraded stations, 2 in Kerala

Trivandrum: Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate 103 upgraded Stations across the country on 22nd May 2025 under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, including two in Kerala. They are Vadakara under the Palakkad division, and Chirayinkeezh in the Thiruvananthapuram Division. Ceremonial functions will be held at all 103 Amrit stations.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, launched in December 2022 by the Ministry of Railways, aims to transform over 1,300 stations into modern hubs with multimodal integration and future-ready facilities. Symbolising the transformation of Railways, the upgraded railway stations unveiled in phase 1 of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities offering a world-class travel experience for passengers.

Located in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, Chirayinkeezh Railway Station serves nearby coastal and rural communities. Upgraded at a cost of ₹7.036 crores, the station has been modernised with an aesthetic arch, improved waiting halls, shelters, Public Information System displays, and Divyangjan facilities, providing a better travel environment.

The upgraded and renovated stations will feature:
1. To address the congestion and other issues in the Circulating Area, a new Portico has been constructed.
2. To allow easy access, guidance, and convey a sense of grandeur and importance to the station, an Entrance arch has been constructed.
3. New parking lots with more space have been made available for two wheelers and four wheelers.
4. The station’s façade has been redesigned and upgraded, providing architectural elegance with aesthetics.
5. Additional Platform Shelters have been provided for passengers waiting on platforms.
6. Toilets with modern facilities have been made available for passengers.
7. The New Station building includes Portico, Concourse, New Booking Counters with a separate counter for differently abled persons, Renovated Waiting Halls, New seating arrangements for passengers, etc.
8. High flag mast (30m), which serves as a symbol of national pride and unity, representing the values and ideals of the country.
9. Provision of a 16.0 m height High-mast light for increasing visibility and safety for the passengers at night
10. Divyangjan-friendly accessible signage, improvement of toilet facilities and separate parking spaces
11. Train information system units have been installed in the Platforms
